Why is your scalp skin important?

Updated: Dec 17, 2024

Your scalp is an extension of the skin but more complicated. It is the thickest skin on the body in comparison to the rest of the skin.

Each hair follicle has a sebaceous gland responsible for producing sebum. It has three layers:

Epidermis - This is a thin layer made up of four layers, this contains many types of collagens.

Dermis - This is the thickest layer and where the hair root is located. It's here the roots absorbs oxygen and nutrients.

Hypodermis - This is the deepest skin layer and contains blood vessels and fat cells.

Long story short, taking care of your scalp is just as important as caring for your face and body skin.

Dirt, pollution, dead skin, and sebum can build up over time, making your hair look dull and even causing hair loss and breakage. That's why a good hair care routine is key to keeping your hair beautiful, healthly and strong.

Scalp care includes:

  • Good Cleansing

  • Regular massaging and oiling

  • Re-balancing oil production

  • Moisturising the scalp
